CCT Workshop turns out successfully

On Friday, the 22nd of August, Zeallous Racing had its second big workshop. This year it was held at the Thornton Campus of the College of Cape Town. Willem Amoraal organized the whole thing for some of the new schools that he introduced to F1 in Schools.
Zeallous Racing had even more experience and material this year as they could add Team Zeallous to their success list. By winning the National Championships Team Zeallous will be participating in the World Championships in London from 12 – 18 September.
Rhodes High brought ±20 students who have never taken part in the challenge before. After giving a quick introduction, the teacher helped us to divide the learners in the different portfolio groups. The design Engineers went to the Computer Lab with Leonardo Maré. Most of the kids have barely worked with a computer before. Surprisingly still they managed to do some basic designing on Solid Edge V20.
Hugo Minnaar showed four students how to manufacture a car. All the different steps were shown through real models that were used by previous Zeallous Racing teams. Each student even got a rough car which they could sand off with the sanding paper provided. Willem Amoraal showed them how the CNC machine works and they got a chance to test their reaction times. “I was amazed to see how quickly the learners started to take part and ask relevant questions even though they have practically never heard of F1 in Schools before.”, commented Hugo.
At the Graphic designing group the learners designed their first logo and clothing under the guidance of Marisa Niemandt. Zeallous Racing supplied each learner with a booklet in which they could make notes and do their drawings. They also received a complimentary pen from the College of Cape Town.
Last, but not least, the Team and Resource Managers learned how to lead their teams to victory. Johannes Jonker and Kyla Smit gave them insight on marketing strategies and basic leadership. These learners wrote the most of all. Hopefully this pays off and we will see them participating in the next competition. “The excitement and inquisitiveness of the learners inspired me.” reported Johannes.
Zeallous Racing would like to thank Ben Malan who was also present at the day and helped with the set up. Thank you also to Rhodes High for showing up and being so enthusiastic. To Willem Amoraal and the College of Cape Town for their facilities and a special thanks to Denzel Haenow from the Design Magazine for the pictures and for the article he’s going to do.
